Burrough on the Hill Country Park

Burrough on the hill is an iron age hill fort in the East of the county, with well preserved ramparts and astounding views over the Wolds. The site was picked by people during the iron age, because it was a good position to defend. The only way to get to the site was up steep hills, and they could see any advancing army for miles.

Whilst the hill was already there, the ramparts are man made, every shovelful of earth had to be lifted by hand to build the steep ramparts surrounding the site.

There is ample car parking, although there is quite a long walk from the car park to the actual site. There is a way marked trail, with a walk through mixed woodland below the site.

The site is open every day during daylight hours, and car parking is £1.00
