The Countryside Code

The countryside code is a set of guidelines to follow when walking (or for that matter doing anything else) in the countryside. If you follow the code, it helps to protect the environment, and makes life easier for other walkers, and for the people who live and work in the countryside.

Enjoy the countryside and respect it's live and work

Guard against all risk of fire

Leave gates as you find them*

Keep your dogs under close control

Keep to public paths across farmland

Use gates and stiles to cross fences hedges and walls

Leave livestock, crops and machinery alone

Take your litter home or bin it

Avoid polluting the air or water

Protect wildlife, plants and trees
